10 Hacks To Feel Like You’ve Got It Together This Pandemic

I’m just going to come right out and say it. It has been a WEIRD year. We’re all thinking it. Being plunged into what we can only describe as our ‘new normal’ of suddenly having to work from home, not being able to see friends, family and colleagues or even do basic things like go have a browse at the shops or a meal at a restaurant is incredibly unnerving. Let alone the threat of this deadly virus threatening our mere existence.

Sure, downing a stiff drink helps every now and again, but the honest truth is that nobody has their sh*t together at this time, so be kind to yourself. Sharon from work may be posting to Facebook about how she is raising money for the NHS while simultaneously doing home workouts and home-schooling, but don’t let that make you feel bad about yourself. We all cope differently. What you do need, however, is a few simple hacks to make yourself feel like you’ve got it together, because crossing a few of the smaller things off your list and feeling good and productive will not only put you in the right frame of mind to tackle some of the bigger issues we all have to face right now, but ease yourself into doing them, too.

Here are a few quick and easy things I do to make myself feel like I’ve got it together, that instantly catapult my state of mind from lazy and uninspired to Motivated, Mountain-Moving Maven,

(1) Make a List
I don’t know about you, but writing out a list really puts me in a targeted, motivated frame of mind. I absolutely love powering through it and ticking off each task, but tend to leave out some of the bigger tasks. So I’ve found that making a list of the smaller things you want to achieve and ticking the whole thing off before moving on to a list of bigger things helps put you in the right frame of mind for the latter. Try it and let me know what you think.

(2) Do a Ten Minute Tidy
Pick a room you spend a lot of time in, set a timer of only ten minutes and commit to tidying it the best you can. I like to follow this handy guide that tells you how much time you should be spending on each room (some are less than ten minutes!) and what to do to make the most of those ten precious minutes to achieve maximum results.

(3) Organise Your Finances In Under Five Minutes
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I absolutely hate discussing money, dealing with numbers, creating budgets, etc. And with my uncontrollable shopping habits, I was spending money I should have saved for my utility bills etc. on clothes. That was until I created an account with the Monzo bank. The bank is run solely on an app and is aimed at young people. It allows you to do things your traditional bank wouldn’t, like divide up your money into ‘pots’ so your money for utilities, bills, rent, etc. remains untouched and you know how much you have left to spend on other things. Pots are super easy to create and customize. I have seperate ones for my electricity and water bills, holidays, date nights, items I’m saving up for, car payments, etc. It also allows to to set budgets for things like shopping and eating out and sends you notifications if you’re approaching the end of the budget, so you’re always on track. Honestly, it has been a game-changer for me and the only thing that has helped me take control of my finances like a proper adult. James, myself and a lot of our friends use it, and we couldn’t reccomend it more.

(4) Throw Out Expired Products
Out with the old and in with the new! Getting rid of expired food, cosmetics, medicines, etc. will declutter your home and your mind, and help make space for fresher foods, better skincare, etc. It’ll only take about ten minutes but will make a HUGE difference to your state of mind. If you’d like to take this one step further, get rid of any items of clothing with stains and holes, single socks that used to be in a pair, etc.

(5) Replace your Dead Plants WIth Faux Plants
And speaking of throwing out expired products, stop beating yourself up about your plants dying. The truth is, only 1% of the people I speak to are actually able to give plants (the needy little f*ckers) the love and sunlight and attention they deserve to keep them alive more than a month. I, for one, have given up trying to pretend like I have the patience for any of it, and have been looking for realistic looking faux plants ever since. Easy, fuss-free, affordable. And I am so here for it in 2019.

(6) Do A Quick Personal Tidy-Up
Nothing makes me feel like I’ve got my sh*t together like a good old-fashioned grooming session. Shave your legs (and any other parts that may require it), tweeze your brows, file down your nails and paint them in a quick and easy clear polish, floss your teeth and clean your ears. If you’d like to take it one step further, make a night out of it by also exfoliating and doing a sheet mask. Annnnd relax!

(7) Wear Matching Lingerie
This one is KEY for me. To me, matching lingerie is basically the defining feature of a girl who’s got it together. It is like my own little secret treat from myself to myself, that nobody knows about except for me. Also, can we take a minute to appreciate how easy it is to achieve as well? Mere seconds and literally zero effort to feeling beautiful, sensual, put-together and empowered.

(8) Wear your Favourite Lipstick and Perfume
Even if you’re a no-makeup kinda gal, you have to admit that a power lip and your signature scent are a winning combo to making every girl feel like pretty, put together and powerful. I like to take it a few steps further by dotting concealer under my eyes, roughly pencilling in my brows and adding a peach illuminator to my cheeks for a glow that says you’ve been getting 8+ hours of sleep, eating your veggies and drinking your body weight in water, when you’ve really been binge-eating pizza and binge-watching Netflix into the wee hours every night. Oh, and speaking of water…

(9) Up Your Water Intake
Is there anything more responsible than drinking lots of water and staying hydrated ? Yes, I know it can be super annoying to want to go to the bathroom every five minutes when you start to increase your water intake, but I promise that only lasts about 3-4 days before your body gets used to it. Not convinced? Better skin, better sex, better breath and so much more can be achieved by simply upping your H20 intake. Tempt yourself into drinking more water by getting a pretty refillable bottle (I love the HydrateM8 trackable bottle because it tells you what time you should be drinking), chucking fresh fruit into your bottle to give the water a bit of flavour and downloading a water drinking app so you don’t forget.

(10) Contact Three People You Love
The best things in life are the simple things, and my favourite of them all has to be calling friends and family for a quick chat or Zoom call or even a little text session. You’ll feel so refreshed after speaking to someone you love and feel like you’ve done your bit by checking in to see if they’re okay Chances are, you’d make their day, too. Don’t stop at three if you don’t want to, or maybe save some for the following week. Once you’ve finished speaking to your loved ones, you could take the messaging a step or two further by replying to all your pending messages, emails and social media comments. Just make sure you dedicate only a small amount of time to this, so you’re not wasting hours of valuable time on your phone.

Feel free to try as many of these as you like and vito the ones that you think won’t work for you. But once you have the smaller things out of the way, trust me when I say you’ll be totally ready to tackle the bigger ones!
