What’s New At Chanel For A/W 2016

When we’ve had a summer as glorious as this one, only something truly special will have me thinking of retiring my beloved off-shoulder tops, sandals, lip stains and bronzers and instead, looking toward creamy burgundy lipsticks, copper eyeshadow and cute transitional coats and boots. This year, my inspiration came in the form of Chanel’s Le Rouge Collection N°1 – the brand’s sultry new beauty launches for A/W ’16. I was lucky enough to be invited to take the collection out for a spin by Harvey Nichols Manchester as part of their amazing Beauty and Bubbles campaign this month.

.

When I walked through the doors and to the Chanel counter at Harvey Nichols, I was greeted by my makeup artist for the day, Saher, who was one of the most genuinely lovely girls I’d met. She handed me a glass of Prosecco and walked me through the collection while I tried not to salivate all over the products and asked me a few questions about my skin type and what plans I had for the day and evening, so we could map out a makeup look for me accordingly.

.

Since it was a Tuesday and I didn’t have any special plans other than a couple of low-key post-work drinks with a friend, we decided to go for a look that was feminine, sophisticated and perfect for the early evening – a light coppery smokey eye, lightly flushed cheeks and a diffused reddish-brown pout.

She first prepped my skin with their Hydra Beauty Gel Creme and primed with the famous Le Blanc de Chanel illuminating primer, both products being part of their signature year-round beauty and skincare offers.

.

She then created the perfect blank canvas for their gorgeous makeup by using the Perfect Lumière Velvet foundation, which I have to say, I was very surprised by. I usually tend to steer clear of foundations with the word ‘velvet’ in it, as the popular belief is that they can be fairly heavy. This one, however, not only felt and looked really light on my face, but stayed matte for hours and hours after! This is definitely a product I will be going back for again and again.

.

After this, she set to work creating the perfect copper smokey eye using their Les 4 Ombres Quadra Eyeshadow in ‘Candeur et Expérience’ and the Illusion d’Ombre cream eye shadow in ‘Rouge Brûlé’ which are the signature eyeshadows for the new Le Rouge A/W collection. She went subtle with the eyeliner along my upper lashline (a refreshing change from the wing!) drawing a soft black line with the Écriture de Chanel eyeliner, finishing off with a coat of the Le Volume de Chanel mascara on my upper and lower lashes.

.

She then filled in my brows to give them a classy, full but natural look (no dreaded ‘Instagram brow’ here!) using the Crayon Sourcils eyebrow pencil, added a little warmth to

my complexion using the Soleil Tan de Chanel bronzer and then made my cheeks pop with the Rouge Profond blusher, the signature blusher to the Le Rouge collection for A/W ’16. I love how the blush is a sultry red/pink/brick combination – perfect for the cooler months when you feel like straying from super bronzed summer skin.
.
To finish the look off, I was allowed me to pick the pièce de résistance and my favourite part of any beauty look- my lipstick. I opted for the Rouge Allure Velvet in ‘Rouge Vie’ (no.58) from the Le Rouge collection – a beautiful diffused brick red that looked a little bit like what your red lipstick would look like under the soft glow of warm candlelight. She lined my lips with the closest matching lip liner (no 98, also from Le Rouge) and did a beautiful, precise job of making my lips look elegantly fuller.

.

As I thanked Saher and left with a little Chanel shopping bag with the Rouge Vie lipstick I bought in it, I had a feeling I’ll be going back for the stunning burgundy brown pictured below as soon as cooler temps hit. And the foundation. And the blusher. And a nail polish! What do you think of the Le Rouge Collection N°1 and the look they created for me? I’d love to know what you think, so share your thoughts with me in the comment box below, or via Instagram, Twitter or Snapchat (@bombaybubble).
