An Hour Of Indulgence - Mascara Every Saturday

An Hour Of Indulgence

An Hour Of Indulgence

One of my top guilty pleasures ever since I was a teen was the concept of ‘the perfect beauty day’. I’d sit around in my hot pink robe listening to Avril Lavigne as I gave myself an at-home pedicure, put on a face masque my mom made me with real strawberries and oatmeal and massaged olive oil (or worse, mayonnaise!) into my hair. I may have smelled like a salad in the end, but as long as my skin and hair were better for it, I was on board.

.

Fast forward ten years and my weekly ritual has changed a little bit. I now listen to jazz, light some candles and use products that work better for my twenty-something skin and all the problems it comes with (and believe me, there are a few). So when the intu Trafford Centre (international readers – its the biggest mall in Manchester) sent me an email asking me to stop by to experience an Indulgence Hour that would have me getting my glow on with a facial, makeover and manicure in sixty minutes or under, I couldn’t wait.

.

I arrived a couple of hours early since it would be ungodly to visit the biggest mall in the city and not have a little browse around the shops. For those of you who haven’t been, the Trafford Centre is absolutely enormous and it is exhausting to walk from store to store if you’re not sure where you’re going. Luckily the map on their newly launched app helped me find my way around quickly. But before I knew it, I was a hot and bothered mess laden with heavy shopping bags while my purse seemed comparably lighter although I simply cannot fathom why *ahem*. I grabbed a coffee to go and headed off to my first Indulgence Hour appointment – a refreshing 15 minute Post Shopping facial at The Face Doctor.

The Face Doctor, a brand that originated in Cheshire’s super posh Alderley Edge make luxurious, high-end, all-organic skincare containing active ingredients like marine collagen. The products are completely free of parabens and sulfates – always a win – and I was pleasantly surprised to learn that they also carry a line of their own mineral makeup and a line of products for men. Impressive.

.

After answering a brief questionnaire about my health and lifestyle choices and skincare concerns, I was ushered into a tiny but calming room at the back of their beautiful store where my face was cleansed, exfoliated using what can only be described as the nicest smelling scrub ever, moisturized and treated to a top-notch eye gel I plan on adding to my beauty bag stat (God knows I need it).

.

At first I was a little apprehensive about the complete elimination of the steaming process commonly used in traditional facials. However, when we were finished, it was obvious why I didn’t need it. My skin felt and looked so incredibly fresh without it, it would have only been a waste of time.

Flushed faced and with lifted spirits, I was excited to see how the Indulgence Hour could possibly have me looking or feeling better then I did after the facial, and so onward I trudged, shopping bags in tow, to Bobbi Brown.

.

Greeted by the lovely Pooja from Bobbi Brown’s A Team, she was so lovely and chatty, she instantly put me at ease and then walked me through some of their recent launches, in particular the new Red and Pink collection of lipsticks and nail varnishes they launched specifically for Valentine’s Day.

.

In order to let the glow from my facial shine through, she used their medium-light coverage Stick Foundation, added a touch of soft pink blush on the cheeks to make them pop and then used the Pink Glow highlighting powder – one of the newest additions to their excellent strobing products to enhance the glow by strobing along my cheekbones, on the bridge of my nose and on my Cupid’s bow.

.
She left the eyes fairly clean, opting for groomed brows with the Perfectly Defined Long Wear Brow Pencil, flirty lashes with the Lash Glamour Lengthening mascara and eyeliner only dotted between the lashes so my punchy pout in ‘Blazing Red‘ would take centre stage.

Feeling like the prettiest girl in the mall (sorry not sorry), I made my way over to Nails Inc. to finish off my look with the cherry on top – a beautiful glossy manicure. Keely, my lovely nail technician walked me over to their wall of scrumptious looking shades so I could decide who I wanted to be that day. After battling the age old debate of sexy and provocative red v/s delicate and feminine ballet slipper pink, I noticed a little frame on her desk with a picture of Alexa Chung sporting the most fierce burgundy nails ever. I mean, if they’re good enough for the reigning queen of the fashion world, they’re good enough for me, right?

.

Since this was an express manicure and a part of the Indulgence Hour, this Cinderella noticed that my time would be running out soon, and that’s why we didn’t do a traditional hand soak.

.

Keely neatened my cuticles, applied base coat, the colour of my liking (shade ‘Victoria’) and finished it up with a super shiny top coat. Ta-dah! I was good to go, but not without a vow to return and buy their spray on nail polish. Yes you can spray it on your nails. Yes it is totally awesome and revolutionary. No, I cannot wait to get my hands on it.

They say when you look good, you feel good and I most definitely felt good after my Indulgence Hour was up that day. I don’t know about you, but after a long, hard week, nothing sounds better than a little shopping followed by an hour of beauty treatments. It is the perfect amount of time to commit – and let’s face it, time is something none of us have a lot of and you’d probably spend a couple more hours of precious time getting the same treatments done at a salon.

.

Unfortunately, my plans for that night fell through which was a shame as I was planning on debuting my new look to my friends. However, I got back home to a husband who was so full of compliments, he barely even acknowledged my shopping bags. Nailed it!
